Platner & Co. is honored to be involved in The Pasadena Showcase House of Design as the designers of the Office and Bathroom in this year’s Arcadia, CA estate.
The Pasadena Showcase House of Design is an annual interior and exterior design event in which firms are invited to design rooms in a historic, Pasadena-area property - showcasing their talents and generating support for deserving local youth and arts organizations.
This year was Malibu-based interior design firm Platner & Co.’s first time participating in the Pasadena Showcase House. Peggy Platner and her team created a “Gentleman’s” Office and Bathroom fit for a “Mad Man” and inspired by the style and sophistication of the 1950′s and 1960′s.
Incorporating their passions for working with local artisans and use of fine, customized materials in their projects, all walls and ceilings of the Office and Bathroom are covered in hand-applied Venetian plaster, featuring hand-blown glass light fixtures in both rooms, as well as meticulously planned and placed Carrera marble slabs throughout the bathroom.
Each piece of furniture is custom-designed by Platner & Co., who have been creating custom furniture and architectural details for over a decade. The collection of Art Deco and Mid-Century furnishings include a natural walnut executive desk and cabinet finished in a high-gloss resin with antique brass details, a finely tailored reading chair upholstered in Hermes slate-blue fabric with the fashion house’s iconic horse-bit pattern, as well as a solid brass rolling bar cart and wall mirror.
A finely curated collection of period antiques sit alongside their custom furnishings watched over by lithographs from ’70′s op-art pioneer Karl Benjamin and photographic work from Lillian Bassman. Platner & Co. has created a space that is innovative and contemporary yet reflects the energy and feeling of the era from which it is inspired.
After an exhilarating three months of construction and design by the over 20 design teams involved, the Pasadena Showcase House has opened its doors to the public for tours Tuesday through Saturday, ending on May 19th. Tickets cost $35 with all proceeds going to support the work of The Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts as it brings arts education opportunities to youth across Pasadena.
